Car Accident Story – Part IV

After a long conversation with Cedric, we decided to give up on spending $400 on a round trip flight to pick up TT from UC Davis. Not only because it’s too expensive to purchase flight tickets at the last minute, but also because TT had never been on an airplane before, I didn’t want to put more stress on him considering everything he has gone through the past few days. I am so lucky that my work lead understands TT is more than a pet for me, he offered me a day off to get him back. Me and Cedric drove all the way up from LA to San Francisco after work on September 3rd, arrived at the hotel around 3am the next day, slept for a few hours and drove to UC Davis in the afternoon, totally exhausted.

WARNING!

This post contains potentially disturbing images that show injures.

Viewer discretion is advised.

Dr. Majeski explained to us what happened to TT’s pelvis, and also let us know the result of the surgery is very successful, TT is turning into Wolverine. During the time Dr. Majeski went through all the home care details, I heard someone came into the room behind us, I turned around unprepared.

I can’t properly describe how I felt at that moment, I wasn’t ready and I was all tears. TT looked so messed up, but this is how a true fighter looks like, am I right?
The skin and underlying tissues of his left hind limb were significantly bruised and unhealthy in appearance, I have to continue monitor the remaining skin surrounding the incision, hopefully the underlying tissues will heal as the overlying skin sloughs off, or TT might require a revision surgery in the future to close the wound.
The Doctor told us TT refused to eat anything other than cheese, hospital technicians provided him a whole buffet of assorted food selections after he woke up from anesthesia, TT couldn’t care less until they sprinkled some cheese toppings, I am impressed they figured that out. She also told me TT growled at one of the clinicians, who is a guy. I wasn’t surprised because TT loves girls, and he will never let a stranger man touch him. Knowing him is recovering and having that bandwidth to throw a fist at people makes me happy, that’s the TT i know.
Thank you Dr. Majeski for bringing TT back, and thank you so much for proving the other vet at Truckee river was so wrong when she told me TT is a lost cause.

You look like a raw turkey now TT, you really need to put on your pants!

TT won’t let me leave his sight for a second, he was very upset when I had to go away managing the rest of the paperwork to check him out of the hospital. I took him out for a potty break before we hit the road. TT was trying his best to position and he did a great job. It’s heartbreaking for me to see him limped like that.

TT gave me his first smile right after we got into the car, I bet he knows we are finally going home and he will be safe. We only took a break once, and took us 7 hours to drive back to LA. TT yelped a few times because of the pain, otherwise TT lay comfortably in his crate and willingly consumed lots of food after seeing me.
His little sis Sha-Sha misses him a lot, she went up to check on him immediately after we arrived home. He finally went to sleep after I gave him some Tramadol.

Later on at night, I gave TT a warm compress around the incision and stomach for 10 minutes each, TT really enjoyed it. His injury it’s pretty scary looking. Later I offered him his first meal at home with beef, rice, carrot and sweet pepper. I put a book underneath the table to prop it higher so TT could reach his food easier without standing.

I feel lucky I still have you by my side, so don’t worry, we will walk through this together. I will never give up on you unless you are too tired, too painful and you just want to sleep. I will never stop trying, I will never ever give up on you.

At the end I want to thank those people who supported us when this horrible accident took place. Not only took over driving while I was under serious emotional breakdown, but also you guys took great care of me in the most difficult period of my life. If it wasn’t you TT won’t be here.

Thank you Simon, Tin-Tin, Jane, John and Cedric.
