Grand Lake Nordic Center

Winter Dash 2 : Old Dillon Reservoir | Grand Lake Nordic Center

Dec 25th night, we drove all the way from Utah to Colorado, we could barely see the road while a blizzard hit us on our way there. I also learned a great lesson that night, you should NEVER use a full beam in this situation… because it reflects off the snow and bounces back into your eyes… and also, never ever drive behind a snowplow, or any car in a snowstorm. Besides all that, I actually had a great time driving on stormy night, it was like going into hyperspace.

The Lost Cajun

the next morning we drove to a beautiful small town to have lunch at The Lost Cajun, great tasting and reasonably priced gumbo.

Old Dillon Reservoir Trail

Grand Lake Nordic Center

Unfortunately we couldn’t find a dog friendly enough trail which we can let our furry kids to go wild off leash.

Ended up going to Old Dillon Reservoir Trail, this was not planned.

The precipitation last night gave us a lot of snow this morning.

This is a short, easy 1.7 mile loop trail located near Dillon, the Old Dillon Reservoir was built in the 1930’s.

This trail will be lined with wild roses in late June and into July, I hope we could come back to see that during the season.

At the end we climbed up a small hill, it wasn’t easy for Tissue and Tinkerbell because the slope was covered with fluffy snow, I didn’t take too many photos because that day was very cold and I lost the feeling of my fingers half way.

It became really windy on the top of the hill, we got to enjoy the scenery for a few minutes before my IPhone died due to the extreme low temperature.

We couldn’t stand the coldness, even TT the one with the tickets coat started to shiver, Jennifer started to worry about her pups so we decided to walk back.

On our way down, I stuffed Tinkerbell in my jacket to warm her with my body, poor baby!

I thought 0°F is so cool and it will be the coldest temperature we will get, we silly Californians got so excited and took a photo of it.

Grand Lake Nordic Center

On Dec 27, we were at Grand Lake Nordic Center, they have 35km of groomed trails for snow activities and about 5.5k dog friendly ski and snowshoe loop!

To walk around in a groomed area is not as interesting as hiking, but it’s definitely more friendly for not only old dogs, but also kids or first time skiers. The trail was easy, but somehow Tiru refused to walk again.

Jennifer is actively looking for a bag that’s big enough to fit Tiru for quite a while, she told me there’s once she went to REI, one of the salesman told her if her dog can’t walk, she shouldn’t bring the dog, Jennifer was pissed of course, I thought that’s such a strang suggestion you would offer to your customer if that’s the exact issue she is trying to solve.

And my phone came back to life, woohoo!

I personally think it’s very cool to bring your furry friends with you wherever you go even after they get old. It’s an owner’s responsibility to never leave them behind at the moment you committed to own a pet. Perhaps dogs only take up a tiny part of your life, but you yourself is actually a huge part of their whole life, you are most likely everything to them.

If I were Jennifer, I would certainly do the same, you are coming with me TT! let’s try Alaska this year! 😉

Tissue had already been to Alaska in winter, Jennifer told me it was too cold that she couldn’t even put Tissue on the ground.

We had a splendid day, except TT got attacked by a bigger dog. Maybe he thought he protected all the girls? but hey… you really have to pick someone your own size… I rather you run like a coward to be honest…

TT’s hair got pulled off like what will happen during a girls fight, he also has injuries around his chin because the other dog is big enough to put TT’s entire head into his mouth and bite down. Lucky I know how to deal with those wounds… but can you please stop getting into troubles? Or I will definitely die from a heart attack one day…
